Look - a sexy consumer device that doesn't try to look like Razr or iPod. Is boxy the next new thing?
Now only if they'd the silly trend of black-and-silver trend almost all cell phones and laptops have today. Black-and-silver has become the fake-woodgrain of the '00's.
The feature list is mighty impressive too. I don't know if this will ever come out in the US.
Digital Blue has created the Tony Hawk HelmetCam, a $99 helmet-mountable camera capable of recording 45 minutes of video on a memory card.
I think they are marketing this to the wrong audience.
They should be selling this to city bike riders.
When I was in New York for the 9/11 bike ride, I met a cyclist who was hit by a car. She now wears a helmet-mounted camera and a recorder that straps to her waist. If she is hit again, or sees somebody get hit, she'll have video evidence of who was at fault. Her setup was far more bulky than what is being offered by Digital Blue, and I wonder if this device would be a more ideal solution.
Digital Blue's web site, while attractive and blue, has just the one picture you see here of device, and no technical information. There aren't even even any sample videos. Has anybody given this device a try?
It seems like something all city bikers should have.
I like all kinds of music but I have a terrible memory for artist, song, and album names, so I often listen to free streaming radio stations like Digitally Imported.
Pandora takes this a step further - you give it one song name, artist name, or album name, and it instantlly starts streaming music that it thinks you would also enjoy.
It's Flash-based, so there's nothing to install. It says it's free for the first 10 hours but I think I've used for a lot more than 10 hours already.

The "analysis" of the music is often as interesting as the choices it picks.
Slick Rick: Club rap influences, east coast rap roots, southern rap influences, syncopated beats and swingin' beats.

Will Wright got his start with SimCity and is now most widely known for The Sims.
Forget everything you love or hate about The Sims and watch Will Wright's Game Developer's Conference demo of his next game in progress, Spore. This demo is actual game play, not amazing pre-rendered graphics with no game play (*cough* PS3 *cough*).
You start with a micro-organism in a pool of water and build it up to a sentient civilization that spans galaxies. You "evolve" your organisms with a Lego-simplistic interface that could be a game in itself.
It's an hour long, and the premise is how to let gamers create their own content.
Here are some clips from the video:

The video requires "registration" but you just need to give a realistic-looking email address.

From Engadget:
The Scooba is designed for some industrial strength cleaning action on your tile and linoleum floors, which it achieves by first vacuuming up the flotsam and jetsam, then applying a liquid cleaner, and following up by drying the floor — making it also safe when used on wood floors.
I'm a huge fan of the Roomba (and any robot that does household chores for me), though I don't use it much anymore because I hate cleaning (it takes about as long as it would have taken me to vacuum). I have the first generation and the newer ones supposedly fixed that problem.
Yet another online music store, this time from Yahoo.
Yahoo! Music Engine. $5/month for unlimited music and videos.
I'm not going to use it, but I love this blog entry from one of the developers, which is pretty convincing.

The dashboard holds a few secrets too... such as how fast you are going... where is that dial again?
I'd be way to distracted to drive this thing...
Which would you buy? The Apple monitor or the Dell monitor?
They're both use the same LCD panel from LG/Philips, but Apple's monitor cost $500 more than Dell's. Find out if this translates to a better deal in AnadTech's comparison review of both monitors.
Word is that these image were leaked by MTV and the press... Microsoft doesn't comment on rumors, and officially the next generation XBOX hasn't even been formally announced yet, so they're being hush-hush... for now....
The next generation XBOX will debut Thursday, May 12, at 9:30 p.m (every time zone), on MTV, in a big media event with Elijah Wood and the Killers.
If you are in the market for an HDTV, you might want to wait just a little longer.
From Gizmodo: TI 1080p DLPs On Their Way
Not terribly exciting news, but it's important in that true HD-quality, low-cost DLPs are on their way. DLP prices are already falling as we speak, but a massive influx of chips from TI and other manufacturers is definitely going to change things up this summer.
Mitsubishi will be using these new chips in a line of 52- to 73-inch sets.

I think this might become popular for metro and airplane commuters, but I'm not sure about beyond that.

Anybody have any experience with these devices? I saw a bunch at CES 2005 but none caught my eye as a "must have" geek device.
If only everything in my kitchen was as cool as Frankie Flood's pizza cutters, I'd cook all the time.
What's next? Monster Kitchen? Pimp My Appliances?
