CES 2005 - Lesser-known companies with cool products
Thursday, January 6, 2005
There were several halls totaling to about 4 football fields worth of space full of Asian manufactures that I've never heard of. They probably make most of the products we use today, but stay behind the scenes as companies like Dell and Apple put their logo on items, mark the price up 200x, and sell it was a one-of-a-kind item.
Take a tour of some cool (and not-so-cool) items that sparked my interest. There's about 150 photos here, with lots of my own commentary. Feel free to add you own comments too.

How many extra buttons can you squeeze onto a keyboard?

Or a mouse? I did like the extra-wide scroll wheel, but I've gotten used to the left-right-tilt that the new Microsoft mice have.

Keyboard made of fabric. Machine washable... I think...

Tiny little MP3 player. I like that the USB cable is built in. Many of the smaller models have this, yet none of the larger ones do. Seems like the larger one would have more room for it.

Sweet! Flash drives disguised as artillery! Take these with you to your next meeting and the airport security won't have any troubles with it, right?

Credit-card sized USB flash drive. A little thicker than a credit card, but heading in the right direction.

Can you guess what this company makes?

Burnout 3 (one of my favorite XBOX games), and a collectors edition clear XBOX. I think this booth was for the headphones but I was distracted.

If you click on the image above to see the photo full-size you'll see how much of a difference their "Magic Solution" is better than the "Luxurious Solution". What they are showing is that most VGA connectors are crap compared to theirs. I was really impressed, if I ever need a VGA connector I'll be looking these guys up. Now what's their name?
