Is Doom 3 doomed?

Games are more than pretty pictures - they has to be fun.
This humorous and "offbeat" review of Doom 3 sums up what a lot of people are now saying about the apparently much-hyped beautiful yet boring game.
Glad I don't need to spend time or money on that game. Now I can go back to waiting for Half Life 2 and Halo 2.
Here's a quote from the review:
Although it's built from an impressive engine, Doom 3 is ultimately a soulless derivative rehash of tired, tried, and true motifs. It is a bauble that reminds us of id's triumph when it comes to technology and their abject failure when it comes to imagination.

I know it's like asking when Duke Nukem Forever is coming out... but any word on a Half Life 2 release date?
I'm not jumping on Doom 3 right away - but the dynamic lighting looks very interesting. I'm hoping modders go wild with it. It's long past time for a good Wild West mod to one of the major platforms.

The reviewer probably didn't have a fast enough machine to run the game...

sorry to disagree, I wouldnt know about boring but the damn game wont even start on my machine im running an amd athalon 64 3200 with 1 gb of ddr ram, and a ati radion 9800pro vid card with 128 mb of ram, and the game just shuts down bfore it even runs, i took mine back for a refund.

I wouldent say doom 3 is boring coz it rocks it took me 2 an a half months to finsh it an it runs real good on my amd athlon xp 1900+ 1.6ghz with 512 mb of sd ram with a nvida geforce fx5200 128 video card and a 80gb hard disk an a 40gb hard disk and a dvd burner an i hav no problems with it but i do know i need other 521 mb of ram for ultra performence for the game

Doom 3 is more like Gloom 3. The game was obvious from the start and after a few hours of optimizing and glaring at this games boring, gloomy, graphics I decided to run the uninstall utility...the best thing this game has to offer.
