TeacherReviews Private Preview has begun
April 24, 2004 1:26 AM
Earlier tonight I sent out emails with a private URL to the TeacherReviews preview site to the 50+ people who've helped support TeacherReviews with donations. Thank you!
The preview participants are able to see the reviews, but most of the other features are disabled at the moment, including adding new reviews. At the last minute I decided to disable the user system until I could do more testing, which means all of the features that require you to be signed in are disabled. Security and ease-of-use are my two top priorities, and since I haven't done enough testing to be sure everything is perfect security-wise, I'd rather just hold off until I can make sure all of the code is secure.
The public preview will begin in a week or two, at which time everybody will finally be able to read and post reviews. The site will officially re-launch once all of the important new features are complete.
I think tonight I'm going to go to bed early for once in the last few months. I took off the last two days from my real job to get more TeacherReviews work done, so I've been programming for the last two days straight with small breaks for food, stretching, and some sleep. My girlfriend is here patiently waiting for me and I've been ignoring her to work on this. Time for me to step away from the computer... well until early tomorrow morning. Can't wait to finish the user system!

Allow some text advertisements to help pay for the site.
some ads are useful. Ads about graduate schools would be helpful. Ads about software or hardware relevant to students would be useful. Advertisements that would help students buy used textbooks at discount prices would be good as would advertisements that help students sell old textbooks at prices higher than their bookstore would pay. Advertisements about jobs would also serve a useful purpose.
Just don't allow those annoying pop-ups.

The professor who is against your website must be a loser!
Tell us who he is! It is a scandal for that person.Posted April 28, 2004 12:19 PM
Hey! Your site is gr8. I already contributed through paypal but I did not get access . I did not get any URL in my email do u want me send u my email again?

If you used Hotmail, or another free web based email service, make a quick check of the bulk mail folder just in case. That's where mine ended up, the filtering on those email services tends to exclude legitimate email often.
Anyway, thanks a lot for the preview site, it was really helpful since I had to pick summer school classes on the day the site went up. Keep up the good work!

I emailed you and contributed through pay pal and I haven't gotten a link :(

I really like the new format. Quick Q: Will the classes be found according to department when final? I would prefer not to have to scroll through everything to find a class.
Thank you so much for all your hard work! Looking great!
Sincerely, Jan

USC Student - the site is free, and I make no money from running it. I've been running TeacherReviews since 1999 without making a penny, but spending a ton of money and time on the site. Students who are sending donations to help me pay for the site I'm thanking by giving them early access to the incomplete version of the new site.

Hi, you are doing a great service to everyone. You are truly a great person and I want to thank you for your service.

Sent a donation. How do I get access?

to #16 USC Student: Shame on you!!! Dylan had been working so hard to make this site up and running. To give a little financial help to keep teacherreview.com is just fair.He is not forcing you to donate if don't like. I think you are the one moron bacause you cannot understand that he is giving early preview to those gave donation as a thank you otherwise it will be available to everybody as soon as it is complete and ready.Dylan did not created this site to earn money, actually he is doing all the users a big,big favor. So please be thankful, be patient and watch the words you're using in giving comments. If you think Dylan is a hustler the don't use this site to prevent you from being extremely angry.

Dear Dylan:
I am a CCSF student who appreciates your website and who has benefited by the students comments. I wish I could share with you what I learned in my CLW 18 calss about slander/libel. However, I was also taught that unless I am an attorney, I am not allowed to voice my opinion about the law. I hope that your web site is running before the Fall 2004 sessions. All the best.

Okay...So money's a bit tight and I've already registered for Summer and Fall, but I am still anxious to see the site, if for no other reason than entertainment. Hang in there.

Hello Dylan, I have a quick question, when will the site be ready?
Posted May 2, 2004 11:55 PM
I LOVE YOU!!!!!

Hey Dylan, I've got a question. Do you have database for RIT comments? One of the professor evaluation sites for RIT went down and the guy that was running it said he sent it to you.

Kev - yes, and all of the RIT reviews have been intergrated into the system.

#27 - You can use the preview site TODAY. It just requires a small donatation (I'm sure a donation as small as $1 is worth it to you).
The full complete site will be up when it's ready. I don't have a date yet. It's about 90% done, so maybe a week or two.

it has been about a year since the 'donate a dollar to see the preview site' thing started. when is it really gunna be ready for everyone to see?
Posted November 14, 2005 1:45 AM
...it has been way more than a year.
