TeacherReviews... almost... there...
April 20, 2004 3:27 PM
I'm almost ready to launch the preview of the new TeacherReviews. The planned date is this Friday, rain or shine.
Some new features:
- Rate the reviews
- See the reviewer's average grades (so you don't have to wonder if they just give everybody bad grades)
- Easier access to the newest reviews
Some features not done yet:
- Professor customization (such as personal comments, links to syllabus)
- University customization (such as school photos)
- Searching
- Email notification when new reviews are posted
I'll be able to add features even once the site is up, so I'm not going to wait until everything is done before launching.
I think you'll be happy with the new site. It's fast and easy to use, and most importantly, all the old reviews are still there.

oh thank God. What about the people who couldnt donate, when will they get to see the reviews?
Posted April 20, 2004 5:48 PM
Yes, thanks Dylan! I want to register, but am relying on your webpage to avoid a dud.
If we haven't yet donated but do so now, will we get early access, too? If so, how will you know who is donating to you--is there a particular field in the paypal screens that we should put our user ID or email address into? Do you have a threshhold for the donation amount?

For non-donates: The site will open to you too a week or so from now.
Besides giving something nice back to those that contributed to the site, I need to limit the amount of people that visit because I know I'm going to be buried in feedback. I love feedback, and I try to reply to everybody's email, but I can't do that *and* work on the site at the same time.
There is no special field on Paypal - I will send emails to whatever account you used for paypal.
Donation threshold? No. A couple people have donated $1, but that's just silly because paypal takes a cut of every transaction.

right now im in the class with the professor who try to take out teacherreviews. This guy is so negative and thinks he is Mr, Perfect. He taught the same notes that are at least 10 years old to his students. He is lost in Cretaceous time. He should have retired long long time ago. This guy made science a bad name. i get sick when he's in my sight.

Woo-hoo! I'm so glad this valuable website is finally going back online. Although I have already register for classes, this still is going to help a lot of students who haven't.
Dylan, I hope your server is ready to handle all those traffic!

I think I know who the angry teacher is. It seems like i remember reading a comment exactly like that about either a sociology or computer science teacher at the University of South Carolina (the real USC). I can't remember. Of course, I won't name names, but if you go to USC and have taken any sociology or CSCE classes, you can probably figure out who done it. I'm leaning toward the CSCE department personally.

Dylan, Would it be possible for you to add an Alpha index capability to the site? You know, being able to choose states, schools, teachers, classes by letter (C for Californa, S for San Francisco State, F for Franz, H for History?) I seem to remember SF State used to have 22 pages of teachers listed and gosh knows how many classes. It would be so much easier to click on the letter to be brought to that group of State/Classes/Teachers, etc. Hopefull this makes sense. Just a thought - know you've already got your hands full.

#26 - Yes! For now, everything is single-page only, which means the page takes a little longer to download, but you don't need to hit Next Page a dozen times.

I tried to donate through Paypal, but for some reason Paypal wouldn't allow me to make a donation with a credit card that I've used in the past for transactions through the Paypal service. May I send you a personal check? I feel the work you've done is worth some compensation. Thank you.
