It's about time you updated your Office
January 27, 2004 3:18 PM
Hey - do you use Word, PowerPoint, Excel, or Outlook? Then do yourself a huge favor: Go visit OfficeUpdate now.
OfficeUpdate will make sure you have all of the latest patches for whatever version of Office you are using. I know it supports Office XP and Office 2003. I'm not sure if it supports Office 97, 98, or 2000, but you should still visit to get the patches you need. WindowsUpdate, which you should also be using to make sure you have the latest patches for Windows, unfortunately does not have the updates you need for Office.
In addition to helping protect you from the latest email trojens and viruses, the Office Updates also fixes problems that could cause Office programs to crash. Office Update is free and easy to use. It doesn't even make you restart Windows when it's done.
So instead of swearing at Microsoft next time your Office crashes or you get another email virus, do something about it now, because chances are Microsoft released a patch for the problem months ago and you just haven't installed it yet.

Be sure to have your original Office CDs handy. The updates won't install without it. Don't have your original CDs? Sucks to be you.
Posted January 27, 2004 6:21 PM
Actually, the updates installed without CDs for me. However, I did have issues. Word update installed fine the normal way, but the other two failed. I had to download the full Admin install for the general Office and Outlook Junk Mail Filter Update patches. Nothing is ever easy.

I downloaded the full admin install and it still asked me for the original disks looking for "SKU011.CAB". Where did I put those OpenOffice cds again?

Awesome Rob - it's awesome when Microsoft developers are posting items like what you posted. It helps us non-Microsoft employees realize that: A) We aren't going insane when we run into these sorts of problems, and B) You are human too.

I recently had to perform an image restore on my windows 2000 partition, and my backed up image was from a fresh win2k installation with many CDs already installed. The first time I actually try to run Office (Word) from a regular user account, it complained that it needed to install things. I can't remember if it couldn't find a file there, but I attempted to Repare (Detect and Fix Errors only) from Administrator. And from there, it was complaining that it couldn't find a required installation file SKU011.CAB.
I was glad I still had all my installation files in a nice directory structure on another partition, which did have SKU011.CAB. But I explicitly told it where the file was and it still complained.I read this blog, and realized that the path to my installation files may have changed a drive letter, but I first tried something else. My NTFS C Drive had security set up for Full Control to Administrator, and smaller read access to Everyone. I changed my Full Control to the group Administrators, and suddenly the install went fine. (Note, the SKU011.CAB and the entire partition that it was on had Full Control already to the group Administrators and Everyone, and so the problem was not that the file could not be read.) I suppose a more descripitive error could have been that it didn't have access to write to the drive, instead of that it couldn't find the file. Was the install running as a different user? Other than Administrator, but still in the group Administrators?

I have the same problem, and i tried to download sku011.cab but failed.I'm a layman. How to change my Full Control to the group Administrators?Who can tell me how to solve this problem step by step?

Hello, I just upgraded, installing the latest "office" and I too experienced problems.. at first it started when my "access" was asking for "sku011.cab", and thinking that I had done something wrong, I re-installed "office" and this time it asked to "upgrade" from website, and then asked for the original disk, (which was still in my drive) now my problems started to get worse, it keeps rebooting my system (at least 30 times in 2 days) .... any one for linux???
I went to ftp://61.138.6.199/office2003/PRO/SKU011.CAB and it tells me that this file is corrupted, and then I tried ftp://61.128.210.134/office2003/SKU011.CAB and nothing is there.. a look at google shows at least 60 others with the same problem..
here is another place to try: http://202.105.138.158:8080/downloads/sc_office_2003_pro.iso
I have not tried this yet..

Just a note to say that if any of you are in need of downloading SKU011.cab, use eDonkey (for those that dont know it, www.edonkey.com) it has about 10 different versions of the file but most of them are fully working.
APosted March 10, 2004 8:29 AM
Or use kazaa (www.kazaa.com), there is a good version on there too
http://www.DylanGreene.com
Posted March 10, 2004 12:54 PM
Andy - Bad! Don't use Kazaa - full of spyware and adware. Will slow your machine down, make it insecure, and can lead to programs like IE crashing.
Posted March 10, 2004 2:05 PM
Technically yes, but when you deconstruct the code and build you own, you get all the features you need without any of the crap that you dont. Alternatively use Adaware6, best spyware remover ive ever come across. . .
Posted March 11, 2004 11:10 AM
Any other sites to download sku011.cab?
Posted March 15, 2004 11:13 AM
Dylan, ever hear of kazaa lite! No adware or spyware!!!
http://www.DylanGreene.com
Posted March 15, 2004 2:30 PM
#18 - Kazaa Lite doesn't come with any but your system can still get the spyware/adware through Kazaa's updates/upgrades.

Posted April 13, 2004 1:32 AM
Just a note for anyone else trying to solve this problem for Office 2003 on Windows XP -- I occasionally play around with the services on my machine, disabling those that seem to be sucking up memory for no particular good reason. I was also experiencing the SKU011.CAB problem: I couldn't start Excel, and when it prompted me for the Office installation disc, it wasn't able to find the file, even though I could locate it myself in Windows Explorer. Turns out that one of those services I stopped, called "Office Source Engine", must have been the cause. I just quit out of all my installation/repair dialogs to get back to the desktop, started that service, and was instantly able to open Excel with no problems. Perhaps this is the case with someone else.

I just got off the phone with Microsoft on this problem. It has not been documented yet for the Knowledge Base.
We were able to get Office Update to run without the SKU011.CAB problem by first doing a repair of the Office Install. I was having the same trouble running either Office Update or when I tried to add components to Office 2003.

help me !trouble with SKU011.CAB
Posted June 24, 2004 7:03 AM
I had a problem with SKU011.CAB on 2 Dell Optiplex pc's: one has a problem with the installation of Office XP 2003 and no programmes will open; the other has a problem with Excel that came as a direct result of trying to install a Microsoft Office Update (there had been no problems with Excel before). When I try to run Excel, it shows the usual screens ('Preparing to install', 'Please wait while Windows configures.../Gathering required info...', Installation Error: File not found...').
One site suggested the problem was with the MSOCache folder, and recommended copying the MSOCache folder from another pc. I looked on another of my pc's and it had more files in the folder (my folder was about 8MB, the other about 17MB) - including SKU011.CAB - so I copied it onto my hard drive.
I tried to run the install of Excel again, it couldn't find SKU011.CAB in the correct sub-folder of MSOCache, so I copied the SKU011.CAB file to the Desktop, tried it again, and it now found it. BUT! It's now looking for E2561410.CAB, which I can't find on any pc. When I search for it on Google, only one website contains it, but the link's broken now.
So, still stuck! And all cos my IT company lost my Office discs.

Can someone explain in detail and english how to fix this problem with sku011.cab. I'm not the most computer literate and I don't have the original CD's. I can find the file and what seems to be sku011 but the installation still says unable to find.. Do I have to copy/paste this file somewhere?
Posted July 19, 2004 5:36 AM
Indeed, SKU011.CAB must be available on the folder C:\MSOCache\All Users\9000040c-6000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9. Then you just have to run the set up file Office2003-kb828041-client-enu.exe.

Posted September 5, 2004 7:58 PM
First of all, I would like to make mi apologies to those who did not manage to fix the problem thanks to my solution (53 to 54).
The problem, then, may be a security issue (see http://www.mcse.ms/message436198.html). Here, as a summary, the fellow explains that "The security settings on (his)
C-drive prevents (him) from creating new directories in the root directory, andthe installer apparently wanted to create C:\MSOCache. So if you don't havethis directory and can't create it yourself you cannot patch Office 2003."So maybe everyone still having a trouble with this damned file may check this out.
From my part, everything is solved since I applied the patch...

Marcio in #22 had the solution that worked for me. Go into Registry Editor (Start, Run, "regedit"). Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, Software, Microsoft, Office, 11.0, Delivery. There should be only 1 directory under Delivery, which is your DownloadCode (mine was 90000409-6000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9). Select that directory. On the right side of the screen, right-click on CDCache. Change the value to 0. This worked for me, but be very careful anytime you edit the system registry. Thanks for the great advice on this board.

Well, I was having the same problem (stupid Microsoft), I implemented the solution from #69, it seemed to work, but I found that Windows Installer required another set up file, the same one from #44. I searched google for that, and found this website that saved me. It has a list of CAB files that Office might ask for. You can download them individually or have a zip file of all the CABs. The link is as follows:

ok ...here's the deal...everything on my comp until i gotevidence eliminator v5.0 and apparently it somehow uninstalled my Office 2003 Pro and deleted sku011.cab ...i used #69's famed method and now it is asking me in the instillation for file D:\MSOcache\AllUsers\90000409-6000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9\YT561401.CAB--it gives me an error and asks to verify if the file exists and asks to retry. My comp was runnin so smooth..i think i really might have screwed it up...its runnin kinda slow now...has anyone ever heard of EEv5.0 and wether or not some pirated versions can screw things up....i would appreciate some input....i am a definite layman.....i'm really lost....Thanks

Thanks for the great advice on this board.
tried this but now i get mso cache is not a valid folder i am using windows xp service pack2

It puts your back to how it was before you get that messageMSOcache\AllUsers\90000409-6000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9\YT561401.CABPosted January 19, 2005 3:45 AM

Well you guys , i'm so pleased for you - honest!!
But I am about to throw this notebook out tha window:
if I try (69)'s method I get as far as 11.0 but I don't get the Delivery sub-directory -
instead I get Common\InstallRoot and VerboseSetupLogging
There is a Delivery sub-directory that is subbed to Office, rather than 11.0 - but this does not have the parts (69) stated - no directory, no download code that is obvious. No CDCACHE, doesn't respond to right-click in terms of value options.

Well, I consider my self very computer literate. I have an over priced master degree, IQ above 130 and I was so frustrated by this mess I threw my 400.00 palm in the pool, felt like an idiot (because I was acing like one) and surfed a while. I some how (thankfully) stumbled here via a google trip from some where else. And #69 worled for me also! Almost as good as phonics I might add! LOL!
Each time I tried to open Excell iot would say please get your cd for this file. i HAVE THE CD, but it was not on there. I have the product key code , no go! All of this from an update! I am scared to death to go back. Should I now that this works or what? Has anyone went back to the upate and tried it. i apologize if it is posted here, i stopped reading after everyone simply was thanking #69! Well, best i can tell his name is Marco from Brasil and REInvestor put it laymen terms for us all to enjoy. I do not like to mess with CAB files and the regisrty, bad experience once before but this was pretty safe.
Well, some one let me know if they ventured back to the update and installed it. This is how mine went kapoot. After doing a MS update for office 03.
I love my outlook now I can use it ASLO!
Go Brasil and GO Investor!

I also tried copying the necessary CAB file in the directory instructed...no go.
I tried to do #69 but I don't have that variable in my directory. I used to slam Mac users but since upgrading to XP I have to admit Bill Gates is one amazing person....being able to convince millions that his software is worth using....what's that saying???? "Who's more the fool....the fool who led you here of the the fools who followed?".
FYI I upgraded my BIOS in the hopes that it would improve my peformance and it did. Just wish software developers could produce a simple software even an unedumacated feller like me could use.

I have the CD's for MIcrosoft Office Professional Edition and it still doesn't find SKU011.CAB. Most of the files on the CD are zipped. When I unzip, I get a "Shitload" of files. Thank you #164... was struggling with the #22/#69 solution until I loaded the IJ561401.CAB file into the msoChace/All Users/90000409-6000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9 directory. The URL you gave had this file and it worked great. The trick was to load both the sku011.cab and IJ561401.cab files into the same directory. Otherwise, the sku011.cab file kept on deleting upon each attempt. Everything back to normal now... Whew!

The fix for the sku011.cab file is the file attributes, copy from the cd and put it on your desktop and change the properties (have read only and hidden unticked), point the repair wizard to the desktop copy and you should be fine, it may ask for further files - but that is because you have pointed the wizard away from the cd, simply point it back at the cd. all will be fine from there. The main reason is because the MSOCache folder in the c: drive has become read only, undo this and select all files and subfolders when prompted to also make them full access - (this will also fix your updating problems)

Sometimes reinstallation in the only solution to this problem, but before that try the following…..please close down all windows sessions before executing the following method:-1. With the error message on the screen (sku011.cab error), hit CTRL+ALT+DEL
to get the task manager
2. Go to PROCESSES tab.3. End the process of MSIEXEC.EXE under your user name. Please note there will be 2 MSIEXEC.EXE, one under system and one under your name or login name.End the process for the one which is under your user name or else there may be future problems with the office. This normally takes 30 secs and excel will be back to normal. No downloads or discs required my friends. The downside is that any excel docs. not stored on disc may be lost.Good luck, Barry. – if this helps please reply to barry.mcneill@yahoo.com.Posted October 6, 2005 8:56 PM

I got the SKU011.cab error when I tried to start Excel after an attempt to install Office Sp1 update via Windows update. (I didnt have my installation cd's). This is the solution that worked for me. I used REGEDIT as suggested earlier and went to the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE >>MICROSOFT>>OFFICE>>11.0>>Delivery. Here I found two folders each named with a series of numbers beginning with 9. I had previously read that this shouldnt be the case and only 1 folder should be there, so I assusme this is why the earlier solutions didnt work for me. (I'm assuming these numbers are to do with product codes and microsoft's anitpiracy initiatives) Anyway now you have to go to c:\MSOCache\All Users and see the name of the folder that exists there. What i found was that the folder names in my registry entry didnt match the name of this folder, The difference was in the initial numbers so I modified the name of the first folder. (rightclick then rename) For the second folder I edited the CDCache key value from '2' to '0'. (righclick CDCache then click modify then enter the value in the 2nd field). When I tried to start EXCEL there was a new error saying E2561410.cab was not found in the c:\MSOCache\All Users\90000409-6000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9 folder. So i now downloaded this cab file from http://www.goingbanking.com/Office%2003/0ffice%202003/ and copied this into the above mentioned folder. And then phew call it LUCK or GENIUS, Excel began on my next try. I hope this solution works. (Remember to backup the registry before modifying it, and enable the show all files options to view the MSOCache folder and files, and also set a system restore point for good measure.)
Hope this helps
Cheers!

Im kinda confused, i downloaded the .cab file but it was just a winrar directory with tons of other files in it, when I point my office to the folder where I extracted them (yes its the right msocache-->all users-->32894789324999 file) it says it cannot find the file yt561401.cab -- Which is true, there isnt an actual file called that, but the directory i downloaded was a bunch of little files and not a .cab file HELP
Posted October 27, 2005 1:43 AM
k, heres what you gotta do, search google for create cab file or something along those lines, I used acdzip, make the download into a cab file with the write name and add it to the folder. The next error I got was there was no opa11.bak in the folder, so I searched and found that you have to copy the file opa.dat from --- documents and settings -- all users-- application data --- microsoft -- OFFICE -- opa11.dat copy and paste that file and use your cab archive creator to add it to the previously downloaded archive. AND IT WORKS!!! ps) i can finally thank

Great Blog - 69 and 22 are living gods, and should be worshipped accordingly.
I changed the regedit value to 0 (see #69) then download and saved the SKU011.CAB file (through a P2P, though could use google - about 6mb). I then pasted this file (which may be a .ZIP or .RAR) directly into D:\MSOCache\All Users\90000409-6000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9 (This location is normally on C:\). Remember, do not the extract the files contained in SKU011.CAB to this location, just copy and paste the entire archive. Then do whatever you wanted to do and hey presto, everything works, no more CABs needed, and the world of Microsoft is at peace.
Posted November 15, 2005 7:25 PM
I downloaded SKU011.CAB from the link given by #203 and pasted it directly into D:\MSOCache\All Users\90000409-6000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9.
Suddenly, Excel worked again - without having to change anything in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
Many thanks to everyone for pointing me in the right direction.

Well, I got that the right solution it's the one suggested by #22 and #69.But i have 2 questions:
1) Are you all sure that editing in the register(regedit) in that way is completely safe for the other applications of the computer? don't you think that editing could modify some other settings in someway?
2)In the folder HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, Software, Microsoft, Office, 11.0, Delivery. There should be only 1 directory to edit but i have 2 different folders with 2 different codes (maybe corrisponding to the 2 user accounts i activated on my pc). But,(and this is the strange part of my particular case), in the first account as administrator I created I didn't have any problem with Excel,Word, ecc. even if I haven't got any sku011.cab under the Msocache folder on that account. On the other side any other account (administrator too) that i try to create can't open Office applications. So what I will do? Is it better trying to download the sku011.cab from one of the link above or editing the register? Thanks a lot anyway
Posted December 13, 2005 5:33 AM
hey 220 i found all the cabs i needed on
http://tampa.mikeyv.net/diskcopy/Microsoft/Office%202003%20Pro/
once they have downloaded into your C/downloads folder , copy them to your C:\MSOCache\All Users\90000409-6000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9 folder.
before i did this i followed 69s advice and that seemed to fix a few things, then i ran the detect and repair from my control panel/add remove programs and when it came up with those error messages, i just downloaded the appropriate cabs and it blimmin worked! ive been having majors with my outlook and this fixed it. you have to download about 5 cabs i think it asks for. Hey 69, your a star and you too 203. ive been pulling my hair out all day until i stumbled on you guys. hope i have helped someone!
Posted December 13, 2005 5:52 PM
Thank, you, thank you, thank you, guys! Thanks, Nikko, your SKU011 solution by copying the thing in C:\MSOCache\All Users\90000409-6000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9 (or whatever the number) was great! Now my hate for Office 2003 has turned into a mere caution. You saved me lots of trouble, thanks again. :)

To me #69 seems like a temporary solution to a bigger problem (not sure what). I'd recommend uninstalling/reboot/reinstalling office 2k3. That has always worked for me. Just a heads up tho.

Thanks a lot to Marcio and ReInvestor about the SKU011.cab : "Marcio in #22 had the solution that worked for me. Thanks for the great advice on this board."
About PA561401.CAB Vic #203 solved the missing cabs with: http://tampa.mikeyv.net/diskcopy/Microsoft/Office%202003%20Pro/ . Than it was just saving the missing files into C:\MSOCache\All Users\90000416-6000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9 and the problem was solved!

I see a lot of posts of manually placing files but for those who have for example a missing PA561401.CAB in their MSOCache and have the Office installation cd's. Microsoft has the LISTool, Local Installation Source Tool for download. with this you can enable, delete and move the MSOcache.
Reenabling the MSOCache worked for me maybe some others first need to delete the cache but for me just selecting enable was sufficient.
Here are some links:

Wow! Had to take a little info from lots of posts to get it to work for me. The thing that was different for me was that I didn't do any updates or anything like that. Worked yesterday and not today. Went to Microsoft and they wanted $45 to help me. And yes my software is legal. Bill didn't make enough money last year so come on people we have to help him out. Yeah sure. Last time I worry about whether the software is pirated or not. Used to care because if there is a problem... Anyways feel kind of stupid. Didn't know that you had to extract the cab files. So make a restore point change the directory, download and extract the files into proper folder and worked or me.
Thanks for all the help. With sites like this who needs *^% Bill

Hey Crew I've followed all the advice but still cant get my Outlook to run
In following advice from #69 I see 3 directories under Delivery rather than 1
They are :90110409-6000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9
:90170409-6000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9 And
:903B0409-6000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9
What I have in MSOCashe/All Users is 90000409-6000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9.
Should I change 1 or more of the directories, and how? Also which of the CD Cache should I change from 2 to 0. I could greatly use anyone's assistance on this.
Also does the sku001.CAB every have to go into one of the specific files within MSOCashe/All Users/90000409-6000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9
Thanks in advance!
Posted February 24, 2006 6:12 PM
It is possible the SKU011.CAB that I got from 203 is for Microsoft Office Home Edition 2003 and not Professional (which is what I've got) and that is why I can get it to work?

It worked! After spending 2 hours on this unnecessary problem, this finally did the trick. Thanks #69 and long live CDCache Value 0!

I have checked all the CAB sites listed on this page (which has been a great help by the way), but now I am trying to find YI1403.CAB (not 1401). It seems that all the CAB sites have the YI1401 but not the YI1403.cab -
any ideas anyone?

I found a solution for my problem.
I changed the value of CDCache in setup.ini to 0 (it was 2)
regedit --> HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Delivery\
I found three directories for downloadcode and changed the values of CDCache for all of them to 0.
During installation of additional components of office 2003 (required after sp2 installation)
it didn't complain about sku011.cab anymore but about another file which was not in the directory '
D:\MSOCache\All Users\90000409-6000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9': yt561401.cab
After I downloaded this file and placed it in the above directory the installation proceeded as it is supposed to.
NOTE: I am not an expert myself and I have to tell you to be cautious editing the system registry,
I found this solution on another forum and as more people experience this problem,
I figured it might help someone if I'd put it here as well.

changing cdcache=2 to 0 did the trick.
i contacted ms for this problem, but they did not offer any solutions; onlything they told me is that tech support is limited to 90 days, and since first 90 has been passed, i have to either solve it by myself or pay them another 199usd for extended tech support.
with the all the resources ms has & the amound they received ( i paid more than 350usd for the lousy suite), and they don't even want to fix this simple problems.
just wtf is cdcache?
ms should be punished for their farking lousy support & price; i am thinking about selling my copy as i found openoffice.org is more than i need & free
hell is with ms :(

Excel 2003 was running fine on my system, but the next day I tried to open it, it was asking original CD to download "sku011.cab". I was surprised how it could miss automatically.
Then I tried to search the root cause on internet, although I was not able to find the cause but got the solution from this blog site.
I went to registry at regedit --> HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Delivery\
I found two directories for downloadcode and changed the values of CDCache for all of them to 0. I changed the value of CDCache in setup.ini to 0 (it was 2)
Immediately I tried to open Excel and it worked fine.
Thanks

Posted April 24, 2006 9:49 PM
I just read this entire blog and I wouldn't feel right closing the window without giving a shout-out to #69, even though i didn't use his advice. I fixed my .cab problem with the suggestion from #219. Thanks dude
Posted April 25, 2006 12:09 PM
Thanks guys - the advice on 69 really worked for me. Having tried so many things I'd given up until I visited this website....
Posted April 25, 2006 4:19 PM
Thanks
Posted April 26, 2006 8:15 AM
Many, many thanks to Marco and REInvestor for #22 and #69. I'm getting there....
Now I need to locate a site where I can download TR308222.cab. None of the links above have contained it so far.
If anyone can post a link that would be great, I'd really appreciate it.
Many thanks again.
Posted April 26, 2006 9:37 AM
regarding #318 ...
I managed to locate and download TR308222 and extracted it to the directory prompted by the error message. But I've now run detect and repair again and the same error message is coming up.
Can anyone help????
Thanks in advance.
Posted April 26, 2006 9:49 AM
In case anyone needs this file I located it at macssuck.biz/dl/fp2003/?C=M;O=D
so went and bought a version from www.cabforyou.nl
I didn't trust that
They both looked the same! So hopefully the free one is OK.
Posted April 26, 2006 11:02 AM
Damn thing still doesn't work
A bit more detail on #319 ...
I extracted and saved the TR30822 download to C:\MSOCache\All Users\90000409-6000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9 and re ran detect and repair in Word (that's the application I'm having problems with - it won't Save As)
But the same error message keeps coming up.
Tearing my hair out so am now downloading open office instead.
Posted April 26, 2006 12:51 PM
I should have read # 238 more closely. When I moved the zip file (i.e. without extracting) into the folder detect and repair carried on ...
... until it got to another missing CAB file. This time YA561403. I downloaded that from the first site I mentioned in #320 and moved it (again, with no extraction) into the folder.
Detect and repair finished the installation successfully.
Yippee! I thought. Closed Word and reopened it. Opened a document and clicked Save As. It froze AGAIN. So I'm back to square one. I'll try rebooting before starting investigating again ...
Open office (www.openoffice.org) is free and great, btw. At least I can now make any changes to documents in that application and then save them as a Word file.
Posted April 26, 2006 4:58 PM
Rebooting sorted it

Word working properly again.
Thanks for having this blog Dylan and for the people that contributed so much helpful info especially Marco and REInvestor

Quote #69 REInvestor
"Marcio in #22 had the solution that worked for me. Thanks for the great advice on this board."
Worked for me. I quoted it above to prevent injury to everyone scrolling finger.
Posted July 20, 2006 4:23 PM
Hi all,
i downloaded the pre version 12 of microsoft office and this registry artwork worked fine with it as well. After installation it shows a missing dll file but i hope this case will be solved after the surgery by 69. By the way try version 12 cause its worth of trying and exceptionaly enhanced. Take care all and best of luck for all the future versions:)

#69, Worked great for me, thanks so much I am on road and have nothing with me.
Posted August 13, 2006 1:44 AM
I tried #69 but still Excel prompted for PRO11.MSI so I downloaded it from #186 and still it said it was not a valid Office Installation File...
So I tried a bunch of things (including messing up with the registry and almost rendering unusable the whole office suite) and here are the solutions that worked for me, try them in order:
1. Simply go to Start > Run ([windows key]+R) type "excel /o" and excel will repair itself.
2. If still that doesn't work for you, there is a chance you will be able to start excel doing the following:
- Start excel as you normally do (the instalation program will prompt for whatever missing file)
- While having the window that asks you for the location of the missing file opened, type[windows key]+R and run the command: "excel" and the application will start, just cancel the other instalation window and voilá! you will have a runing excel
The shortcomming of this is that you have to do the procedure every time you want to open excel.
3. go to Start > Run ([windows key]+R) type "excel /?" and you will have two excel instances starting up, one will do so normally and the other one will prompt you for the missing file(s), just cancel the bad one.
Hope any of these are useful for you.

I think it is a neglect on the part of microsoft to release a version of their product with the bugs in it they have too large team of experts on the stuff to consider the option of not having enough time or resources to do the job right from the first time.

- Run file: PRO11.MSI Select " Detect and fix error." in pop-up dialog .

This worked for me,
Go to start then programs then click on 'New Office Document' then
click on Bank Workbook, when it opens you will start getting the microsoft
installing window. Just keep hitting cancel and it will bring you to the excel
window. Go to file, new excel document and just enter anything and then save
it as anything. Close excel and then open that file you saved. When it opens
you will start to get different errors, just hit ok and then you won't have the
problem again.

#69 and putting SKU011.CAB (which I downloaded from emule) to C:\MSOCache\All Users\90000409-6000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9\ solved it.

I really don't know where such 'setup.ini'. is.

Check http://www.technotes.co.uk/sku011-cab.
Solved my problem immediately, without needing any files.
Posted November 28, 2006 2:06 PM
# 69 worked like a charm! #455 above is the same fix.
Thanks!
Here is the steps for others:
Solution below:
There should be only 1 directory under Delivery, which is your DownloadCode (mine was 90000409-6000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9). Select that directory. On the right side of the screen, right-click on CDCache. Change the value to 0.
Your Excel will go through the startup/install step but will bypass the SKU011.cab hangup!Woo Hooo!
Posted November 29, 2006 9:08 AM
i tried #69, then it demanded another CAB file (E2561404.cab)
then i downloaded yt561401 and placed it with sku011 (MSOCache ...) but it didn't work
eventually i tried #379, the simpliest solution : start , run , excel /o and that was OK
thank you #379
Posted November 29, 2006 6:47 PM
Same problem here, but it only would happen to one user. Anyone else logging into the pc worked fine. But #69 fixed it for the one with the problem. Thanks!

Pa561401.cab
That's the file I was missing, apart from the sku011.cab.
Took me many tries before I thought of checking the logfiles in my \TEMP dir. It was all in clear text.
"bla bla bla this file is missing ..."
So I just downloaded that off http://www.joshhoppe.com/store/Office%202003/ and the install went fine Btw, I was stuck trying to install MS Office SP2. Now when the SP2 is installed it found new updates, downloaded them and they are installing right now.
On another note I should say that I had 3 directories in my registry. I deleted 2 of them and edited one. Luckily the "right" one was recreated so I could edit it again.
There, Office was updated again through the autoupdate system. Worked like a charm!

I found my dads old scanner the other day and i plugged it in expecting it to work, yet i need the sku011.cab file. Now i dont have a clue what or where to find this as i'm only 15. Does anyone know how to help me without the technical computer language? I'd be extremely grateful :)
Posted December 29, 2006 4:03 AM
Okay, so far, I haven't gotten it to work yet but I'm in the process. Slowly, I've been downloading the needed CABs as my computer says they're missing. The site I'm getting them from is:
http://tampa.mikeyv.net/diskcopy/Microsoft/Office%202003%20Pro/
I'm not exactly sure which post I got the link from but I think it's #211. So far, I've had to download 7 CABs but I'm assuming that I'm going to have to download all of them.
The method I tried is one that I created by gathering the main ideas from everyone's posts. First, I try to run whatever I need so that a pop-up tells me that I need so and so CAB. I download the cab from the forementioned site and save it to some folder. It really doesn't matter which because you're asked to direct it to the folder containing it, or rather at least I am. Then, on the pop-up, click retry. Repeat until all the appropriate CABs are downloaded. I'm still in the process of downloading CABs so I'm not entirely sure what happens after but I'll keep you guys posted. :]

Where precisely do you put the folder containing SKU011.CAB once you have downloaded it in order for Microsoft to acknowledge it and for it to work?
Via #69, I either did not enforce it correctly, or it did not work.
Once you change the # to 0, then what?
I downloaded SKU011.CAB from http://www.joshhoppe.com/store/Office%202003/

See this is what I did, and it solved my problem.
Searched for SKU001 in my H:/ where I put my Office 2003 installation disc. It provided me the location, H:/OFFICE11
I ran set up of Office 2003; when it asked for the file, I gave the location mentioned above. and VOILA, it was done.
Ha Ha... I am not a techie like you guys, but see, the problem is solved.
The philosophy: KISS... Ah, well, I use a pirated version of Office 2003

Problema SKU011.cab Problem
Solution for this problem in English and Español... Solucion para este problema en Español and English
In English: If your Office 2003 is asking you for the infamous SKU011.cab, run the program REGEDIT and then go to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/MICROSOFT/OFFICE/11/Delivery
Then, in the registry "CD Cache" change the value from "2" to "0" (Zero) and problem solved. It won't ask again for the SKU011.cab
En Español: corre el programa REGEDIT y vete a:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/MICROSOFT/OFFICE/11/Delivery
en el registro "CDCache" cambia el valor de "2" a "0" (cero)....y problema resuelto....no volvera a pedirte el sku011.cab de nuevo

Do it as (69),and that will be OK.
Posted May 21, 2007 12:30 PM
So this is how I solved my problem:
did #69 (not with my girl), then #168
then I got a new error message: "outlvba.dll is not a valid Office Add-in"
so I did this : assuming that you are using outlook 2003, outlvba.dll should exist at
\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\ADDINS. Assuming the file is
there, it could be corrupt. If this is the case, you can rename it to
outlvba.backup and then try doing a detect and repair on Office via the
add/remove applet in the control panel. This should bring in a new copy of
the file.
http://72.14.253.104/search?q=cache:TeXKkrODyMEJ:help.lockergnome.com/office/outlvba-dll-valid-Office-ftopict696377.html+outlvba.dll+is+not+a+valid+office+add-in&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=1&gl=us&client=firefox-a
Then I got a new message again: "OLE registration error occurred"
then I went to Microsoft repair again. this time it asked for more missing files, so i went back and did #69 again and put in new files.
this website still works for missing files.: http://72.14.253.104/search?q=cache:y6xrYwrmip0J:www.joshhoppe.com/store/Office%25202003/+%22index+of%22+sku011.cab&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=1&gl=us&client=firefox-a
ok so I hope this all makes sense but thanks to all that help me!!!!!!
finally after literally 6 hours on the computer, I fixed my damn problem!!!!!!!!!!!
you guys are awesome!!!!!
AND SERIOUSLY HOW COME AFTER 4 YEARS, MICROSOFT STILL HAS NOT FIXED THIS PROBLEM????? OR SHOW US HOW TO FIX IT ON THEIR SUPPORT SITE?????

I am experiencing the same problem with Excel, except #69 is not fixing the problem! I have four items in my Registry, and I have tried many combinations of their original values and zeros and it still isn't working!
I don't want to delete them without backing them up, but it's not really giving me that option.
Any suggestions??
Posted June 11, 2007 5:02 PM
That MS 2003 Hoodlum "missing Skullcap" I stumbled on the MSOffice "skullcap" message after running E.E. V.5 (good software, but now pre XP release). Since I am an ex. Apps. programmer, now in education and use a network of PC's it was easy for me to copy the whole MSOCache - 290 (yes 290!) Megabytes from another computer to another and then let the MSOffice 2003 installer, churn away with its whinging prompts till the whole Office suite had been re-installed. I think the problems of skullcap, as posted here broadly divide into 2 categories - those who have done an upgrade, and thereby made one or two files invalid or incompatible - and others who have accidentally deleted some or all of the MSOCache. There are some 100 or so .cab files in the MSOCache, and every missing file message is asking for a specific system file - no bullshit. The rather ingenious but cranky "#69 fix" to turn off the CDCache key (from 2 to 0) is like to putting an elastoplast on ones toe to fix ones elbow. You need a full range of system files if the application is not to fall over at some stage. Yes I know that changing a reg. key does a temporary fix on some machines - but not on all! Personally I think the MicroSoft corporation ought to support all of these files on its download page, like any other good consumer supporter, since not everyone has multiple computers of the same brand as network administrators do. It would be rather nice for MS to support those people who are paying their rent. If not I can not think of any reason why all new computer purchasers should not switch to free Warez versions of the same program suites to reduce costs. A final word then, be warned by one missing file message, it will probably ask you for another... then another... then another (and if you do not break off soon you will die of exhaustion). Hope that clarifies things just a bit. Do back up MSOCache and put a wrapper round the whole directory, like Zip or Rar to prevent EE or any other memory scrubber from accidentally erasing its contents. Cluz So I conclude the 113 error message is asking for another file - and if you have one then you'll have another - and i stake my wig that if you do not break off soon you'll die of exhaustion

After much research I have found a temporary fix! On your pc do a search for windows genuine, it will bring up this file, then right click and choose REMOVE. This worked for me but it obviously was a windows update. It will be tricky to work around it the next time I need to update.

I tried # 69 and it didn't work for me but this did the trick!
Looked at the Application log from the administrative tools in the control panel.
Found this error:
"feature 'InternationalSupportFiles_JPN' failed during request for component". This means it was trying to install Japanese fonts. If you're not getting the same error, at least it may give you a hint on what it's trying to install, so be sure to look in the error log.
Next I went to add/remove programs in the control panel, and located the Office 2003 installation, and clicked on "change"
Next I selected add or remove features and clicked next.
Put a check into "Choose advanced customization of applications", and click next.
Located the "Office Shared Features" group and expanded it. Then expanded the "International Support" group.
I then changed the Japanese font from "Installed on 1st use" to "Not available".
Click update, then when it's done click ok, and you're done. After I did this, it didn't ask me for install files anymore. If you try this first and it still asks for install files, try #69 then because the install could still be in the cache, and you'll have to clear that too.
Good luck!

I have the same problem as #585.
Fixing using #69 solution helped for excel, word but I still keep getting the Windows Installer popping up. Then when trying to open MS OUTLOOK I get the "PRO11.MSI" file missing.
I downloaded the "PRO11.MS1" file but it does not seem to help.
Suggestions please.

#69 works for me. Revised text.
Go into Registry Editor (Start, Run, "regedit"). Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, Software, Microsoft, Office, 11.0, Delivery. Under Delivery, is your DownloadCode (mine was 90000409-6000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9). May be more than one code. Select that directory. On the right side of the screen, right-click on CDCache. Change the value to 0. If there is another directory also change its value to 0. Reopen the application and it will start the install process again and it should then finish and work now. This worked for me, but be very careful anytime you edit the system registry.

Tried #69's solution, nothing changed. Then I decided to get the actual file SKU011.CAB and used it. Then it asked for another .CAB file which I got off the link in #619. It seems to work now, except whenever I start up Word it flashes me the "Preparing to Install" message, and 20 seconds later Word pops up. That's good enough, considering that I am running Vista.

This fixed it for me
Remove ANY existing installation of OneNote 2003.
Download the Microsoft Office OneNote 2003 Trial version that is located at the following Microsoft Web site:
Install the OneNote 2003 Trial version
Start OneNote 2003, The OneNote 2003 Trial version will already be updated to Microsoft Office OneNote Service Pack 1. With the Office
Sku011.cab missed.
I've never ever installed OneNote 2003 and I tried like You said. SO SURPRISE! I Succeed!!!
If You can't uninstall and then, reinstall MS Office 2003, Why you don't try Install OneNote 2003 (Although I've not yet know what can I do with it! :"P) By this way, MS Word, MS Excel, MS Power Point run well again! (I don't know Why!?)
(First time, there's only MS EXcell can't open. But then, I go to C:\ --> Program Files --> MS Office --> Office 11 - find Excell.exe file and 2-click --> Excel runs well! (I don't know why???)

I ran into this problem bcos i tried to create more space on my harddisk by compressing all the files (and subfolders). And then whenever i tried to run any office app it wud say sku011.cab is missing.
Took me sometime to realize what happened. Uncompressing the files restored things.

Missing sku011.cab file so unable to open any msoffice appn. initially i could not find sku011.cab file .after changing in the regedit , i could not find yt561401.cab soon there were a number of files i could not find and so could not open any msoffice appn . Afger i changed the file attributes , it took not less than 10 seconds . as if nothing had happened at all . Thank u Spongybob - You are truly a saviour

OK...so I have been plagued by the SKU011.CAB thing too. I read about every blog on this page and finally got mine working...so far so good. Here is what I did:
1. use the directions from #69 to change CDCache from 2 to 0. (THX #69)
2. downloaded needed SKU011.CAB file and needed ...PA561401.CAB file from website listed on #618. (THX #618). I saved them both to My Documents (or My Desktop).
3. I then copied the "C: spot" from #438 C:\MSOCache\All Users\90000409-6000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9\ and opened My Computer, then Local Disk (C:) and pasted it there.
4. I then moved the 2 above mentioned files to the MSOCache... and VOILA!!! It works.
I had to look at several different blogs to get mine to do, but it seems to be working so far without needing the original disks or anything. The trick is to find a site to download the needed files (see #618's site). My thanks to all!!!
