Best blog posting software?

October 7, 2003 11:23 AM

Last night I added XML-RPC support to my still unnamed blogging system that you are looking at now. This morning I added support for the Blogger, Metaweblog, and Moveable Type API. So what's the best blog posting software that I should be using? I don't care if it's web based, Windows-based, a plug-in for IE or Outlook, or it runs on my PocketPC, but it absolutely positively must have a spell checker.

I posted this entry using NewsGator, but it formats the font as Arial by default which I don't want, and has limited WYSIWYG-based HTML editing (basically whatever Outlook 2003 can do). Outlook 2003 still doesn't do the red wavy underline when you misspell words. This Best MSWord Feature Ever should be in every Microsoft application by now, also also in HTML-based forms.

On the Arial font thing, you can turn that off...go to NewsGator/Options, posting tab, and select the "Remove font face and size tags..." option.
On the spell-check wavy-line thing, you could probably switch Outlook to use the MS-Word editor (Tools/Options, Mail Format tab)...I'm pretty sure you'll get wavy lines then.
And finally, if you want to control your HTML directly and don't want WYSIWYG, you can change the post to plain text format, and enter the HTML yourself.
Hope this helps!

Greg - does NewsGator do Pingback, Trackback, and upload binary files (like gifs I may want to include in the posting)? I also don't see a way to see the categories from my server.

I looked at W.Bloggar... No spell checking and no WYSIWYG editing. What's the point?

Wow, I really can't find a mature blog-writting program with spell checker and WYSIWYG. I sort of wrote my own for this system. It has spell checker and it is WYSIWYG, but I figured somebody else out there has probably done a more professional job. Anybody?

I haven't found anything useful for posting. One approach I've used is to write in Word <blech> and then copy and past. I've tried a couple other products (not newgator), but haven't found a darn thing better than re-reading my copy. (Nods to Strunk & White...) If you find something, I'd like to see it.

RPC over HTTP/XML? hmmm lemme put on my black hat...

The current plug-ins for NewsGator don't do pingback, trackback, etc...but they could be easily modified to do so, depending on the blog software. It just hasn't bubbled all the way up on the list yet...although anyone could do it - it doesn't have to be us.
You can also do categories with most of the plug-ins; just type the category into the "Categories" line in the post item you're creating. Again, this depends on the blog software you're using.

Hi!! I'm a beginner in blogging and I have a problem. I'm using haloscan for comments on my blog. The problem is, I can't seem to customize it according to the way I want to. It just says "Comments" and "trackbacks", which is so damn boring. And all my older comments from blogspot are gone. Do you know of any other providers or anyway I can learn more on this?

Thanx!

If you're looking for the easy-to-use WYSIWYG client, take a look at BlogJet - http://blogjet.com

I was looking for a similar solution for my wordpress site. I had been using a wysiwyg pluggin that pretty much sucked and found myselft doing writing and formatting my posts in Dreamweaver then copying and pasting the html in. Big time hassle. Dose this Blogjet support wordpress?

John, yes, BlogJet supports WordPress.

What a great example of blogging at its best.

I simply love <A HREF="http://www.platinumplay.com" REL="nofollow">Online casino</A>, I play every day and I keep coming back for more.
I am not a problem gambler because I earn enough money to be able to support
myself and continue my online gambling time. I truly enjoy the relaxation time I
get and the ease with which can use and access online casino's. I hate the
stigma that is associated with gambling online as I view it as a release, an
escape and real &quot;me&quot; time. If it were to become a problem then I have no doubt
that I could and would simply cut online casino from my daily vocabulary. As it
stands though, gambling is simply something I enjoy and the internet and online
play are just a good way to access casino's. Playing against the house means I
never have to worry or feel about actually taking money from someone else as it
is only the online casino that would be paying me off for my wins. Talking about
wins, I have had some great wins in my <A HREF="http://www.platinumplay.com" REL="nofollow">online gambling</A> career – my biggest so
far is $5000 on roulette, on one spin. I am fit, happy, healthy and I love life
and the online casino is just part of my every day existence and escape.
